You've probably noticed how useful slurs are when practicing a song. By thinking a little ahead, you can avoid running out of fingers at some point!
Here’s the beginning of 'He's a Pirate', from the film Pirates of the Caribbean. Above the notes is a fingering that ‘happens’ when you start and just keep going. After the red numbers you’r out of fingers! You can only solve it by twisting your wrist again and again. But that comes at the expense of speed.
If you plan your fingering in advance for each group, you can play much easier and faster. You’ll find that you can move your hand between slurs quickly and easily.
